(WHTM) — Nearly 40,000 pets die in house fire each year, according to American Humane, and a prevention effort is underway.

The Save Our Pets Project came to Lancaster County this weekend to hold a pet walk in Amos Herr Park.

What they’re raising awareness for, though, is no walk in the park.

Proceeds go towards providing local fire companies with pet oxygen mask kits to help pets suffering from smoke inhalation after house fires.See how our community came together for a fun-filled day benefiting animals in crisis.
